Ahmad Nabil, Winner of our December 2009 Feature of the Month!

I'd remember earlier when we started the competition, the men customers mostly did not want to participate in the Feature of the Month Competition due to not having much to show for men's hair styles plus also women have more friends who will vote for them in any beauty related competition.

Boy are they so WRONG!  Ahmad Nabil proved that with friends, anything can happen and surely it did.  He won the December voting by also a massive 176 votes, 20% more than the closest competitor.

Once again, our congratulations to Ahmad for winning December 2009 voting.  We will upload some pictures for all to see when Peter Tan takes his pictures.  Stay tuned!

The HALO. The ULTIMATE FAQ

We have been preaching the HALO as one of the styles for 2010 for quite a while now and what better way to help you make up your mind on the hairstyle is to give you a run down on the style itself and at the same time debunk some myths associated with this hairdo.

1.  Virtually a maintenance free hairstyle that does not require styling.  Should you want to create a more voluminous effect, a flat iron (yes, you heard me right) or a hairdryer will do together with some texturizers such as Serums or Wax to create that shine.

2.  Very very EDGY and TRENDY.  The HALO was in and out during the years and now its here for real.  Sick and tired of the usual hairdo?  Well we too!   Its always the long and neat or short and tidy which are suitable for office wear, easy to maintain and  easilly FORGETTABLE too!  Give yourself a change in these difficult times and get your zest back to face the year of the Tiger with a new style.

3.  Evenly distributed regrowth of hair.  Some of you do worry that by having this hairstyle, when it grows back, the HALO would look like a roadkill after a few weeks of hair regrowth.  Well ladies, sorry to disappoint you there but no, it does not work this way.  Even without trimming after 4 to 6 weeks, the hair would still be in shape, with the only exception that your fringe would be in the way (depends on the length of the fringe when cut initially) but then again, being able to stand out from the rest of the crowd in these competitive times?  Why not? :-)

4.  Some would say that this hairdo is very HOT!  Not as it gorgeous HOT but "Panas" Hot.  Yes it might true for some but ladies, you don't work in a construction site do you?  :-)  Actually for Ivy, since sporting the hairdo, she says its much lighter on her head and it has become perfect for accessories due to the uniqueness of the style.  Large plastic framed glasses would be a great addition for that geeky and yet cutting edge look!

5.  For people with fine hair, the HALO is also the perfect remedy to creating more volume as the haircut is created with hardlines and also a slight graduation towards the top.  But people with thick hair don't fret as the volume is automatically created with the haircut.  So what does this all mean?  Those with thick hair just need to comb through while those with fine hair would do just as great with a bit of blowdrying.  Its that simple!

Want more info on the HALO?  Come on over and have a chat with us.

Lets us say HALO to welcome the year of the Tiger 2010!

Cheers

Hair Trends for 2010

Our article on 2010 Hair Trends has just been uploaded on Emmagem.com.  Click to view the link here.

In this article we discussed the trends that we will be seeing in the year 2010 where a return of the 80s hairstyles are likely with more emphasis on VOLUME.  Not forgetting also is the HALO, making a super comeback stronger than ever, adding a more edgy and creative persona to the wearer (which is YOU)

Curls and Volume

The HALO

Also coloring the theme of the 80s with would be the color RED.  Chilli RED, Deep RED and other REDS are also going to be the color of the year (I wonder if there's a Ferrari RED ;-)

Anyhow, we're not going to create a duplicate of the article here.  So go and click on the link for the article in Emmagem.com

For the uninitiated, here's the link again.  Click HERE ;-)

Happy New Year! New Year, New YOU.

Sorry for the long absence as we've been pretty busy over the festive season (plus the holiday mood which makes you really really lazy)

Well its already 4 days past the new year celebrations and we hoped that everyone has a good start to the year.  Chinese New Year beckons!  We're so glad that this christmas was pretty orderly as many of you started making appointments before coming in (which is SO SWEET :-) as it helped us to reduce the disappointments of turning people away)

Anyways, its time for everyone to get back into their routines and of course plan for the Chinese New Year festivities which will arrive in less than 6 weeks!  We anticipate another mad rush ;-) (after all, we're Malaysians ma) so again, allow us to remind you gently that appointments would be much appreciated again.

For those planning on the rebonding or straightening or perms, now would be the best time to get it done.  Why?  Here's the reason why:-

1.  More time to get used to managing the curls/new look
2.  Allows you to match the wardrobe ;-) (and not forgetting the shoes and the bags)
3.  Not having to rush in with everyone else during the first 2 weeks of February (knowing how congested Midvalley will be during the festive seasons)

While for those who want to color their hair, this one is going to be a little tricky as coloring it now be a tad too early as 6 weeks worth of regrowth is nothing but inviting remarks from unsuspecting relatives..." Eh, why no time go color your hair ah?  Aiyoh... tell you not to work so hard already, now Chinese New Year also hair never go and color... Bla bla bla...."

So, coloration services are best done 1 to 3 weeks before the Chinese New Year for that just right color matching hair and wardrobe.  Nothing beats looking great during Chinese New Year in front of the other cousins or relatives ;-)

But what about those with hair lengths which is neither long or short?  Yes you... the ones always telling your friends that you are keeping your hair long but in fact it takes forever to grow!  So how?  Fret no more!  Hair extensions are now here to stay as we've got the improved ones to offer to you!

No more painful extensions which poke the back of your head when you sleep at night, no more painful removal and yes more beautiful customisations!  The hair extensions that we are referring to are the clip-ons which are about 5 inches in width and can be colored, permed and styled to your preference.  You can remove them at night and then just take a few minutes to put them on the next day!  We'll teach you how to put on the extensions and in no time, you've got your long locks customised to your hair color / perm.  Now thats what we call a NEW YEAR, NEW YOU!

There are a few customers in our feature of the month contest that had their pictures taken with their hair extension and again you cannot see that they are wearing extensions unless stated in the picture.

So again, its time to start planing and get going as Chinese New Year beckons!

I leave you here with some links of our customers who got their hair extensions from us

Ann Choo & May Chan

So once again Great Wishes for 2010 and a very EARLY "GONG XI FA CAI" to everyone!

Cheers

Shunji Matsuo & Rhythm in Bronze

We are currently sponsoring the hairdo for the Rhythm in Bronze (RIB) Gamelan ensemble and we are enjoying every moment of it!  Members of the ensemble coming in thick and fast, a total of 21 of them will be coming to the salon everyday from Thursday 3rd Dec till Sunday 7th Dec 2009.

Here's a picture of the event brochure.

It was a lot of fun actually and also meeting up with the hilarious Edwin Sumun, a personal friend of Raymond. (No, Raymond was not involved in balding Edwin ;-)  We had some pictures taken in the salon, backstage and during the rehearsals.  Here are some pictures of what happened on Thursday.

Every chair was fully seated

With Edwin Sumun before the rehearsals began

Overall we enjoyed the performance and we feek that everyone should go and witness how such traditional instruments create music so alien to our city lives and yet so powerful to keep us lost and in trance with the music.

The RIB Gamelan will be performing at the PJ Live Arts Centre @ Jaya One from 3rd Dec till 7th Dec.  Click on their link below their poster to get more information on how you can experience their music.

New Senior Stylist - Jessie Tang

We have a new Senior Stylist, Jessie Tang!  She's not exactly new to us as she was recently promoted from a Stylist to a Senior Stylist.

Being the most experienced Stylist naturally made her a candidate for the Senior Stylist position after Carven left.  So we would like to annouce that Jessie will be our new Senior Stylist alongside Ben-G to serve everyone.

Jessie brings with her 5 years of experience from her sister's salon in Puchong to A Cut Above in Sunway Pyramid.  Her portfolio of customers sport commercial daily hairstyles suited to the office wear with minimal fuss and not forgetting also the strong following of male customers for their professional no frills look.

Jessie will be off on Wednesdays and haircuts are priced at RM 50 for him and RM 60 for her.

Jessie's facebook page can be found here:-
